The Days Are Short

We’re well into autumn now. It’s pitch dark when I wake up in the morning and it’s dark again shortly after dinner in the evening. A few windows in my house could use a good cleaning on the outside, but the short days are giving me an excuse every single day - ahem, are preventing me from getting to the windows - because it’s getting dark so quickly.

Knowing what needs doing is the easy part, but finding the right conditions and available time to do it, well, that’s another story.

Most business owners I work with know exactly what makes their business stand out. They have all the ingredients for great messaging in their marketing copy all ready and waiting in their minds.

What they lack can be summed up in 1 word: time.

You know how important your marketing is. And you’ve already figured out your positioning - what makes you stand out from others in your market. You’re executing on that every single day.

But the days are short when you’re running a business. The better it’s going, the less time you have, and the more likely you are to look up and realize it’s already getting dark outside and there is no chance you’ll get to that nagging task again today.

It’s a myth that people who hire copywriters don’t know what to write about. It’s true that many do seek my direction on the strategy of what to include and why, but the biggest motivator that drives their decision to hire me is they lack the time, availability, and conditions to allow them to write their marketing material themselves.

Writing copy is just not the most critical use of your precious time. The core functions of working in your business, the things that only you can do? That’s where your focus has to be.

And here’s the other thing. Hiring it out means you know it’ll get done. What would it feel like if writing your copy was off your list of intentions and you could release that nagging feeling and focus on your core profit-generating functions without one more thing hanging over your head?

When you’re running a business, it’s not what you know needs to be done that makes you successful…it’s what you actually get done. If your marketing copy has been nagging your conscience for a while now, why not flip that narrative so it becomes another check mark on your list of stuff that’s helping you drive more customers to your door? The days are short, after all.
